Lent… day 3 …

Sometimes prayers cannot be prayed.  Sometimes they stick in our throats, garble in our minds, harden in our hearts.  Sometimes all we can manage are the silences of despair or bitterness or apathy.  But even these God hears.

Even during these times, God knows and hears our hearts… and continues to love us…

Don’t give up…

Prayer for a New Day…

I was reading on this beautiful Saturday morning and thought this part of a prayer that I found fit just perfectly…

I praise you, Creator of all things – matter and energy, planets and stars and universes, mountains and lakes, birds and flowers, grass and trees, and me.

You made it all, Lord.  By your hand.  By your Word.  All that I have came from you.

Thank you for your gift of creation.

Amen.

Encouragement for today…

The LORD is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. ~Psalm 27:1, 4-5, 11, 13-14

Today is the National Day of Prayer …

Today in America, it is the National Day of Prayer.  I thought it might be a good idea for we, who call ourselves Christians, to remember Jesus’ teachings on prayer… before we get too self-righteous in our prayers on this day…

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.  Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

This, then, is how you should pray:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.    ~Matthew 6:5-15
